Pop Culture Lunch Box, recently featured in USA Today, focuses on Music, Books, DC, Movies, Politics, Media, Environment, and Sports, all of which I dabble in enough to be considered an expert (or, at least, a geek) about.
Why a blog? 1.) I love to write. 2.) Seems like a good way to keep my life in order. 3.) Hopefully it will entertain you.
Paul Mackie lives in Silver Spring, Maryland with his wife Rachel and 2.5-year-old son Jackson. He is director of strategic communications on climate change for The Nature Conservancy in nearby Arlington, Virginia.
He was a journalist for nearly 10 years, mostly in the St. Louis and Washington DC areas, and is freelancing now for NetGreen News and National Geographic.
Paul obtained his master's degree in media studies and political science from Georgetown University and his bachelor's in English literature and journalism from Southern Illinois University.
The musical comedy he wrote with a fellow playwright, Wiener Sausage: The Musical!, was selected for the 2008 Capital Fringe Fest.
Paul is currently writing a novel. He has played in several bands through the years, including The Sprogs, Funny Boy, Monotremes, Fine Wine, Birmingham Squadron, and Dirt Loaded. He needs to go write a new song now.
